The St. Clement's athletic program offers our students numerous possibilities for getting involved in athletics from 5th grade through Middle School.  Every student in the 5th and 6th grade is given the opportunity to play competitive basketball, and participate on the track and field team.  It is our goal to introduce competition in the 5th and 6th grades, with the emphasis being on teamwork.  When the students reach 7th and 8th grades the competition on the volleyball and basketball teams increases.  It is our goal to teach the 7th and 8th graders the whole concept of competition, (winning and losing), discipline, leadership, teamwork, and preparation for high school athletics.

St. Clement's offers one of the finest gymnasiums in the city for our volleyball and basketball programs.  Additionally, the school has two outdoor basketball courts.

Volleyball

The volleyball program is open to 7th and 8th grade girls.  6th grade girls are invited to join the team for practice in order to be better prepared for the following year.  Practice begins in mid August, with the season ending the first week of November.

Cross Country

Fall brings cross-country to St. Clement's School.  While cross country is usually not introduced to students until 7th grade in other middle school programs, 5th through 8th graders at St. Clement's are welcome to join the team.  This is a unique program for an elementary/middle school.  The runners practice three days a week, and compete in approximately three meets.

Basketball

The basketball program at St. Clement's has enjoyed positive and quick growth over the past few years.  It now involves approximately 75 students.  The 5th and 6th grade program urges any student interested in playing basketball to join the team.  The emphasis is on learning the game, learning how to work as a team and competition.  Consequently, year after year we have had two girls' teams and two boys' teams.  This is also a unique program versus that of public schools where organized basketball teams are not introduced until the 7th grade.  Practices in these grades are typically two to three times per week.  St. Clement's is proud to have earned its first two league championships for the boys and the girls team in 2002.

Once the students start playing on the 7th and 8th grade team, practices intensify.  There is more emphasis placed on competition, and working toward their future in high school basketball.

Track & Field

Once basketball is over, track immediately begins.  The track program at St. Clement's hit its stride last year at full speed.  Every year the program grows, and finds more athletes enjoying the diversity it has to offer.  There is something for everyone on the track and field team.  Whether you are a jumper, thrower, sprinter, distance runner, it is all there for students in the 5th through 8th grades.
